Question: Do I Have To Wear a Seat Belt in Tennessee?
Answer: The short answer is yes. Tennessee law states that drivers and passengers over four years of age must wear a seat belt while in a moving passenger vehicle. Children under four must be properly restrained in a car seat.
There are, however, a few exceptions. On-duty mail carriers, utility workers, newspaper delivery persons, and mechanics on test drives are not required to wear a seat belt. Additionally, someone who is physically unable to wear a seatbelt, as documented by a physician, is also exempt.
You can read the complete law at the Tennessee Department of Transportation's website.
