Guide Review - The Acoustic Spoon

When I was first invited to The Acoustic Spoon, I was skeptical. After all, this "entertainment cafe" is housed in the basement of First Baptist Church in midtown. I had seen this kind of thing before: a hip gimmick to draw you in and then BAM! The next thing you know you are being bombarded by well-meaning individuals intent on saving your soul. Since I am pretty confident about the state of my soul and have a church home already, I wasn't sure that I wanted to endure such an encounter.

But I gave it a try and was pleasantly surprised. When I walked in, I found myself in a room filled with cozy sofas, chairs, bean bags, and rugs. There were candles providing ambient lighting and the aroma of coffee was warm and inviting.

After settling on a soft couch, I sat back and enjoyed the live music. As it was the last night of The Acoustic Spoon's summer concert series, there were several performances both by hard rocking bands and acoustic guitarists.

Best of all, there was no agenda at The Acoustic Spoon. No one tried to preach to me and everyone fit it. It proved to be a great alternative to loud smokey bars and nightclubs.

The next time you are looking for something to do on a Thursday night, check out The Acoustic Spoon. It's fun and it's free - what do you have to lose?
