Guide Review - Burke's Book Store

When you walk into Burke's Book Store, one of the first things you'll notice is that wonderful smell of old books. These books are stacked on shelves, on the floor, and pretty much anywhere that has a flat surface. Simply put, Burke's is overflowing with books.

While their specialty is used books, Burke's offers a small selection of new books, many by local authors. In one trip, I left with a 1950's edition Book of Mormon, the latest John Grisham legal thriller, and a chapbook by a Memphis poet.

If you are in search of an out-of-print or first edition book, the store manager also handles such searches. Just let him know what you need and he will try to obtain it for you. It is that kind of service that has made Burke's so successful.

If you have never been to Burke's or haven't been in a while, it is definitely worth the trip to the corner of Poplar and Evergreen. Stop by, take in the smell, browse the shelves, and maybe even leave with a book or two.
