Angel Food Ministries

By , About.com Guide

As of September 2011, Angel Food Ministries has ceased operations permanently.

Angel Food Ministries is a non-profit, non-denominational organization dedicated to providing financial support in the form of food relief to communities throughout the United States.

Angel Food offers a medium-sized box of food for $30 that contains top quality food staples from every food group, including chicken or beef, milk, eggs, vegetables, and other nutritious items. One box of food feeds a family of four for about one week, or a single senior citizen for almost a month. The menu varies each month, and consists of both fresh and frozen items with an average retail value of approximately $60. If you are interested in purchasing from Angel Food Ministries, here is what you need to know:

  • There are more than 70 Angel Food Ministries host sites in the Memphis area.
  • There are no income restrictions -- people from every income bracket are invited to purchase from AFM.
  • In addition to the $30 box of food, there are add-on boxes of meats, produce, and other items. You must buy at least one $30 box if you want to purchase an add-on box.
  • You must reserve and pay for your Angel Food order in advance. Each host site has a deadline for accepting the current month's orders. It is generally about two weeks before the pick-up date. Orders may be placed in person at the host site or online.
  • You must pick up your order on the designated date and time frame -- usually about a two hour window on a Saturday morning.
  • You will need to bring a box to carry your food. A laundry basket or similar sized box works great for this purpose.
  • When you go to pick up your order, bring your receipt or driver's license.
