Labor Day Weekend in Memphis

Labor Day is a federal holiday designed to honor the "working man." It is also recognized as a state holiday in all fifty states. It falls each year on the first Monday in September and is considered by many to be the unofficial end of summer. A lot of folks celebrate the holiday with cookouts, pool parties, and travel. Below you will find some of the best events going on around town throughout Labor Day Weekend.
  • Delta Fair and Music Festival
    August 29-September 7, 2008
    Admission is $8.00 for adults and $5.00 for kids.
    The Delta Fair and Music Festival is the first big fair/festival of the season. The Fair consists of rides, food, live music, and exhibits.
  • Redbirds Home Games
    August 29-September 1, 2008
    Times vary, see schedule
    Celebrate your day off work by enjoying the great American pastime--baseball! The Redbirds will be playing at home all weekend long, including Labor Day itself.
  • Take a Swim
    Although the city pools are closed for the season, some membership-only pools are still open during Labor Day weekend. As the unofficial end of summer, this is a great time to get in one last swim.
  • Grill Out -- Memphis Style
    Labor Day is the perfect excuse for cooking out on the grill. If you plan on barbecuing, why not do it Memphis-style?
  • Save Money on Travel
    If you are going to be travelling this Labor Day weekend, be sure to scope out the best gas prices in town before hitting the road!
