Labor Day Weekend in Memphis

Labor Day is a federal holiday designed to honor the "working man." It is also recognized as a state holiday in all fifty states. It falls each year on the first Monday in September and is considered by many to be the unofficial end of summer. A lot of folks celebrate the holiday with cookouts, pool parties, and travel. Below you will find some of the best events going on around town throughout Labor Day Weekend.

• Delta Fair and Music Festival

  Admission is $10.00 for adults and $5.00 for kids 5-12.
  The Delta Fair and Music Festival is the first big fair/festival of the season. The Fair consists of rides, food, live music, and exhibits.
• Labor Day Bracket Brash and Monster Truck Mania
  August 31-September 1, 2012
  Tickets start at $10 per person
  The whole family will enjoy a weekend of drag racing, monster trucks, live music, and more at this two day event.
• Stone Soul Picnic
  September 1, 2012
  Free
  What better way is there to spend the weekend than with a family picnic on the banks of the mighty Mississippi? This free event will feature live music from locally and nationally known gospel artists.
• Tigers Football Home Game
  September 1, 2012
  Tickets start at just $5 per person
  See the University of Memphis Tigers take on UT Martin at the Liberty Bowl at their first game of the season.
• Memphis Music and Heritage Festival
  September 1-2, 2012
  Free
  Enjoy a taste of Memphis culture all weekend long at this family friendly, free event.
• Chick-Fil-A 5K
  September 3, 2012
  Registration starts at $20.
  This annual walk/run will benefit Junior Achievement and will be held on Labor Day at Autozone Park.
• Labor Day at CMOM
  September 3, 2012
  $10 for non-members (regular CMOM admission)
  Bring the kids down to the Children's Museum of Memphis to learn about different careers in honor of Labor Day.
• Take a Swim
  Although the city pools are closed for the season, some membership-only pools are still open during Labor Day weekend. As the unofficial end of summer, this is a great time to get in one last swim.
• Grill Out -- Memphis Style
  Labor Day is the perfect excuse for cooking out on the grill. If you plan on barbecuing, why not do it Memphis-style?
