A turkey shoot is an annual tradition for many that dates back to the 1800's. In a modern day turkey shoot, contestants use B.B. guns, shotguns, or even an item that can be thrown to hit a target (not a turkey). Those who successfully hit their target typically win a frozen turkey, just in time for Thanksgiving.
There are not a lot of turkey shoots in the Memphis area, as this is often a small-town tradition. Nevertheless, we have a couple. If you know of any others, click here to tell us about them.
