Obtaining a marriage license in Memphis and Shelby County is an easy task. Here is all you need to know before you head down to the county clerk's office.
Difficulty: Easy
Time Required: 10 Minutes
Here's How:
- Gather all required documentation:
- Ages 21 and Older: Valid photo ID and proof of Social Security number (a passport may be used in lieu of a Social Security number for people who are not U.S. citizens)
- Ages 18-20: Certified birth certificate and proof of Social Security number (a passport may be used in lieu of a Social Security number for people who are not U.S. citizens)
- Ages 16-17: Certified birth certificate, proof of Social Security number, and affidavit signed by both parents (who must also be present)
- Under 16: Certified birth certificate, proof of Social Security number, and waiver issued by Juvenile Court
- Obtain proof of counseling, if applicable. Receiving four hours of approved premarital counseling will significantly reduce the fee for a marriage license.
