Memphian Candiss Leake is excited about the process. "I've got two songs I want to sing," she said, "but I know I've got to pick one." When asked if she was the next American Idol, Candiss grinned. "Well yeah, that's why I'm here."
Friends Danielle Milby and Alice Garavalia drove four and a half hours from Illinois for their chance. Danielle, who plans to sing The Carpenters' Top of the World for her audition, is a first-timer. Alice, on the other hand, has tried out once before.
"I auditioned in Chicago last year," she said, admitting that she didn't make it to the coveted tryout in front of the judges. "This year I will, though," she said confidently.
Rocko - no last name, just Rocko - is also confident.
"I'm the next American Idol," he said in such a way that I almost believed him. "I'm going to sing Sexual Healing. How can Paula resist me?"
Whether or not Paula Abdul enjoys Rocko's rendition of the Marvin Gaye hit, remains to be seen.
Clips of the sixth season's auditions in Memphis and other cities will be aired in January 2007 on FOX 13.
