Filing For Unemployment in Tennessee

By

As of May 2011, the unemployment rate in Memphis was a staggering 10.1 percent. This means that there are a lot of people out there looking for work. In the interim, though, many of these people may be seeking unemployment benefits. These benefits exist to assist workers who, through no fault of their own, have lost their jobs. These are temporary benefits designed to tide the individual over until he or she can find new work.

Eligibility

  1. You must be unemployed through no fault of your own. In some cases, you do not have to be completely unemployed if your hours have been cut or if you have found part-time work.
  2. Your employer must have been covered by unemployment insurance and you must have earned qualifying wages in the base period.
  3. You must be physically able to work when you file your first claim.
  4. You must be available to accept suitable job offers.
  5. You must have earned enough wages to qualify for benefits.
  6. You must wait one week before benefits begin.
  7. You must report any gross income each week.

Benefits
The maximum benefit amount is $275 per week.
The maximum time period in which you can receive unemployment benefits is 26 weeks.
