The International Blues Challenge, hosted by the Blues Foundation, is an annual competition that puts the spotlight on blues acts that may be ready for a worldwide audience.
Affiliates of the Blues Foundation stage preliminary regional competitions with the winners being sent to compete in the ultimate battle of the bands in Memphis.
The IBC is the nation's most respected blues showcase. It kicks off Wednesday with a reception at the New Daisy Theater, and the competition follows.
The days are filled with seminars, workshops, and a youth showcase. Bands compete live at Beale Street venues. $15 wristbands required for admission to participating IBC clubs. For more details, visit the Blues Foundation online.
Beale Street will host its own finals Saturday at the New Daisy Theater. Each venue will choose a band to compete for cash and the title of Beale Street Blues Kings. Click on the Beale Street Merchants Association link for more information.
