In cities and towns all over the world, gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender citizens get together for a day or a week to celebrate their sexual orientation and/or gender identity. This celebration is known as Pride. In many cities, including Memphis, Pride events take place in the month of June. This is commonly attributed to the fact that the Stonewall Riots in New York occurred in June of 1969. Typical Pride events include parades, concerts, and social activities.
