Guide Review - Old Venice Pizza Company

Okay, I'll admit it. Had it not been for the "buy one entree, get one free" coupon in the Entertainment Book, I probably would not have visited the Old Venice Pizza Company. But boy am I glad that I did. This place isn't just another pizza joint.

When I first walked into the restaurant, I immediately wondered if my toddler would be welcome here. The interior was beautifully decorated in a dimly-lit Tuscan theme and at first glance, it seemed too quiet and intimate for a dinner with my husband and son. But the hostess greeted us warmly and offered us a table so we decided to hope for the best. Once we were seated, we saw another couple with a baby, one group of at least ten people, and quite a few couples. Somehow, the ambience was appropriate for all of us.

Our waitress was extraordinarily friendly and accommodated our every need. She was prompt and efficient, yet not intrusive. Additionally, the manager made the rounds while we were there, asking if everything was okay at each table.

But let's move onto the important stuff -- the food. First, a flavorful Italian flatbread was brought to the table and was served with fresh ground pepper and olive oil. It was delicious. For my entree, I chose a dish called Zorba the Greek. It consisted of penne pasta topped with grilled chicken, kalamata olives, Roma tomatoes, spinach, and feta cheese -- all in a tasty cream sauce. I shudder to think how many calories might have been in this dish, but I'll tell you this -- it was worth every one. It was incredible. My husband ordered a calzone with creamed spinach on the side. He said that both were quite good and his empty plate confirmed it. At the end of the meal we were far too full for dessert but have vowed to save room next time for the tiramisu.
