Covington is located in Tipton County, Tennessee and is about 40 miles northeast of downtown Memphis. The heart of Covington is at the intersection of U.S. 51 and TN 54.

History:
Covington was founded in 1824, specifically for the purpose of establishing a county seat for Tipton County. The town was named for General Leonard Wales Covington. It was incorporated in 1826. The town really took off during the 1890's, however, with the construction of the court house, the establishment of the school system, and massive population growth.
