All About Lakeland

Lakeland, Tennessee is a middle-class suburb of Memphis, located in east Shelby County. It has continued to enjoy slow but steady growth since its incorporation in the 1970's and is generally considered to be an ideal destination for retirees and young families alike.

Location:

Lakeland is located in eastern Shelby County. It is roughly bordered by Pleasant Ridge Road on the north, Highway 64 on the south, Chambers Chapel Road on the east, and Brunswick Road on the west.

Schools:

Lakeland Elementary is the only public school in the Lakeland city limits. It is part of the Shelby county School System. Older students in Lakeland are generally assigned to Arlington Middle School and Arlington High School.

History:

Lakeland was originally an amusement park developed around a man made lake. It was complete with thrill rides (including one from the 1958 Brussels World's Fair) and a drag strip. The park eventually closed and in 1977, 260 homes, 7 1/2 miles of roads, and 612 citizens were incorporated into the City of Lakeland.
