Each year during the holidays, the Memphis area is aglow with Christmas lights. Here are some of the best places to see the largest displays. If you know of a Christmas light display that I've missed, please send me an email at memphis.guide@about.com.
Christmas at Graceland:
The stunning light display at Graceland decorates the entire Graceland Plaza area. The lights will first be turned on at 6:00 p.m. on November 20, 2009. The lights will be kept on every evening through January 10, 2010.
Southern Lights:
Southern Lights is the city of Southaven's annual christmas light display, located in Central Park on Tchulahoma Road. The light display will run from November 26 - December 31, 2009 (closed Christmas Day). Hours of operation are: Sunday – Thursday, 6:00 pm – 10:00 pm; Friday & Saturday, 6:00 pm – 11:00 pm. Admission is $10.00 for cars; $15.00 for vans and hayrides; $25.00 for buses and $5.00 for motorcycles.
Starry Nights:
This beloved light display is back and better than ever in 2009. Drive a 1.5 mile route through Shelby Farms and take in the more than one million eco-friendly light bulbs on festive display. Starry Nights runs from November 27, 2009 through January 2, 2010 from 6-10pm on Monday through Thursday and 6-11pm on the weekend. Admission is $20 per car, $35 per shuttle/minivan, $50 for a minibus, and $150 for tour buses.
West Memphis Holiday Lights:
The Community Tree and Park Lighting Festivities on November 24, 2009 at 6:00 p.m. will kick off the season of Holiday Lights at Worthington Park in West Memphis. Every weekend thereafter through January 1st, horse-drawn carriages will take visitors through the park to see the lights.
Zoo Lights:
This is Memphis' biggest Christmas light display and features over one million bulbs! Zoo Lights runs from from November 20, 2009 - January 2, 2010 (select days) from 5:30-9:00 p.m. with the last admission at 8:30. Admission is $5 for members and $7 for non-members. See photos of Zoo Lights.
