Guide Review - Corky's BBQ

I have to say that I’m not the most enthusiastic when it comes to barbecue which probably puts me in the minority here in Memphis. So I was less then thrilled when my boyfriend took me to Corky's for dinner the other night.

The first thing I noticed was how dreary the restaurant was with dark wood paneling covering the walls. I didn't have a chance to dwell on that long, though, as we were just inside the door when someone came and seated us promptly. Moments later, our drinks were delivered to the table. After pondering over the menu for a few minutes, I decided to order the barbecue sandwich and fries, though it was a tough choice as many items sounded appetizing. When the server asked if I wanted cole slaw on my sandwich, I was on the fence; I do not particularly care for slaw but it almost seemed sacrilegious to go without it. Seeing my indecisiveness, the server offered to bring me the cole slaw on the side, which seemed to me to be the perfect solution.

Moments after taking our orders, she was back with rolls and butter. Just moments after that, our dinners arrived. I have to say that the sandwich almost made me a convert. The meat was cooked to perfection, was juicy and tender, and had just the right amount of sauce. Then the fries were great too, just a little spicy and crunchy. Also, their slaw was better than expected and I ended up eating that as well.

I thoroughly enjoyed the experience and have been twice since then. In addition to the barbecue sandwich, I would also recommend the barbecue spaghetti. Whatever you choose, you will not break the bank. A jumbo barbecue sandwich will set you back about $4* while a complete barbecue dinner costs about $7*.
