RiverArtsFest

By Teresa R. Simpson, About.com

RiverArtsFest is an annual fine arts festival held in the historic South Main Arts District. This festival brings together the best of two much missed Memphis arts festivals -- Arts in the Park and the South Main Arts Festival. Festival organizers hope that the RiverArtsFest will grow into a signature cultural event for Memphis. Here are some of the highlights of the festival:

  • Expanded Artist Market with more than 185 juried fine artists from across the country. Market features painting, photography, ceramics, glass, wearable art, toys, jewelry, and more.
  • Hands on Art, a station for artists of all ages to express their creative energies. Last year’s interactive project of hand-painted discs will decorate this year’s festival.
  • Four musical stages featuring acts by known regional artists, and dozens of strolling street performers. Acts range from rock, jazz, blues, dance, R&B, jug band, Latin, Motown, country, folk, and classical.
  • Artist in Motion stations featuring demonstrations on glass blowing, papermaking, watercolor painting, and more.
  • Great food and beverages from area and regional restaurants.
  • Special art exhibits in the galleries and shops of South Main.
