Imagine with me for a moment...

The temperature is a blissful 70 degrees and the crisp blue sky is a perfect backdrop for the golden leaves of autumn. There is a steady hum of laughter and music, punctuated only by the occasional whoosh of a roller coaster car. A sudden breeze picks up, carrying with it the aromas of hot funnel cakes, sugary cotton candy, and slow smoked barbecue.

Ah, can you smell it?

For many long time Memphians, thoughts of the Mid-South Fair stir up nostalgic memories of years gone by. I can remember being a child and having my first taste of a Pronto Pup. I can remember being a teenager and having my first kiss atop the Ferris wheel.

If you grew up going to the Mid-South Fair, then chances are you wouldn't dream of not going. I mean, can September truly meld into October without the fair?

For those of you without sentimental attachment to the Mid-South Fair, I recommend that you go anyway. After all, there is something there for everyone.

Thrill seeker? You can take your pick of dozens of rides at the fair.
Junk-food junkie? With rich foods like fried Twinkies, Philly cheesesteaks, and caramel apples, you are sure to get your fill.
Love to take a chance? You can play any number of midway games of both skill and chance.

And if that doesn't interest you, the Mid-South Fair offers all of the charm of an old county fair, as well. There are hundreds of farm animals on display, homemade cakes and jams entered into contests, and even a Miss Mid-South Fair pageant.

As for me, you can be sure that I will be at the fair this year and every year to come. It is a Memphis tradition that shouldn't be missed. Hope to see you there!
