If you have seen or read the news, you certainly heard about the tragic shooting accident in Parkway Village yesterday. A 4 year old boy found a gun in his apartment and fatally shot himself with it. His mother was at home at the time. This kind of accident happens more often than we probably realize. The real tragedy is that such accidents are completely avoidable.
Memphis is a city with an unfortunate amount of violent crime. As a result, a lot of citizens keep and carry guns to protect themselves or their families. I would dare say that most of these gun owners are law-abiding and responsible with their guns. Unfortunately, it just takes one unlocked and unsupervised gun to result in tragedy.
If you own a gun, please keep it inaccessible to children. I also recommend taking it a step further and teaching your children about gun safety. You just cannot be too careful when it comes to your children.
