I read a sweet story in the Commercial Appeal today about a man who has adopted four teenage boys and is currently fostering two others. The article then delved into the need in our area for families who are willing to foster and/or adopt teenagers.
It turns out that nearly 70% of kids awaiting adoption in Tennessee are teenagers. And of course, it's no surprise that most prospective adoptive parents are interested in babies or very young children. The problem, then, is that many of these teenagers end up falling through the proverbial cracks.
Obviously, fostering or adopting a teenager isn't for everyone. But if there's a possibility it might be right for you and your family, check out this information on becoming a foster parent in Tennessee or visit the Tennessee Department of Children's Services website for additional information.
