The City of Memphis, Mapco, and Bloomfield Baptist Church are teaming up to hold a "Gas for Guns" event. On Saturday, September 15th, you can head down to the parking lot of Bloomfield Baptist and trade in your guns for Mapco gas cards. Each gun is worth $50 in free gas and each person can turn in up to three guns for a total of up to $150. In addition, every person turning in a gun will receive a pair of Memphis Grizzlies tickets.
The idea behind this event is, of course, to get guns off the streets. With that in mind, there will be no background checks run on the guns or on any person turning in a gun. In fact, there will be a no-questions-asked policy in effect that day. All of the collected guns will be destroyed.
If you want to participate, just head down to Bloomfield Baptist Church at 123 South Parkway West between 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. On the other hand, if you are interested in legally obtaining a gun, be sure to check out Tennessee's gun laws as well as how to get a Tennessee handgun carry permit.
