A Sister for Elvis?

Sunday September 28, 2008
Last week, the Commercial Appeal reported that a woman named Eliza Alice Presley is claiming to be the daughter of Vernon Presley, Elvis' father, and therefore a half-sister to Elvis Presley. A DNA testing firm in Arizona is affirming the claim, stating that there is a 99.99 percent probability that Eliza is Elvis' half-sibling. Although there is no DNA available from Vernon Presley, Elvis' mother's relatives have been tested with no kinship detected. By process of elimination, this strongly suggests that Elvis and Eliza share the same father.

The circumstances surrounding Eliza's birth also support the story. Eliza's mother was an unwed teenager who lived across the street from Graceland at the time of her pregnancy. She then moved to Texas where she gave the baby up for adoption.

Elvis grew up as an only child. He had a twin brother, Jesse, who was stillborn. After his mother's death, Vernon was married to a woman who had three children, providing Elvis with a trio of stepbrothers.
