I Still Love the Tigers!

Tuesday April 8, 2008
Okay, this will be my last blog post about the University of Memphis Tigers -- at least until next basketball season. But I just have a couple of things that I want to say. First of all, I am disappointed like everyone else about the ultimate outcome of the championship game on Monday night. We were so close to victory that it made defeat that much harder to take. That being said, I think it is important to remember that the Tigers had an incredible season and went further than they have in 35 years. This was a season that will not be soon forgotten and may have even earned the team a little more respect. Listening to the buzz around town today, I have discovered that most Memphians seem to feel the same way. And I am glad -- we should all be proud of our team.

I do not feel the same way you do about this matter. We only get to the Final Four about once every 15-20 years and to the Championship Game once every 35 years. So, what is to feel so good about? U of M will not be back for a long, long time. We had the opportunity and blew it. Yeah, 38-2. But the two were very hard to swallow.
We may make the NCAA next year but without CDR, Joey Dorsey and Derrick Rose, we will be lucky to be more than an at-large.

I should not have said the things I did about U of M Tiger basketball. Like everyone, I am frustrated (still) at the stinging loss but that is no excuse for blame. I hope Coach Cal stays and with him at the helm and great freshmen we will constantly be tournament bound, whether it be CUSA champs or whatever.
Again, I apologize. You are a tigress, I am a wimp. Bob

Hey Bob,

No worries…I think you were just echoing the frustrated sentiments of many people. And you were right — it did take MANY years for us to get back to the championship game, which makes it even more frustrating!

But let’s keep our fingers crossed and hope that the Tigers make a speedy return to the Final Four! :-)
