Ghost at the Pink Palace?
Now that October has arrived, I thought it would be fitting to dig up some Memphis ghosts. If you know of a local spirit that has not been included in this listing of Memphis area ghosts, please send me an
email and tell me about your ghostly encounter. Let me know if it is okay to reprint your story and to use your name.
While I wait for the spooky stories to come rolling in, I thought I would share this email sent to me by Sarah Johnson. She experienced a ghostly encounter at the Pink Palace, the mansion-turned-museum on Central Avenue. Sarah writes:
"One day, while visiting the Pink Palace with my fiance, I took a looked out a window which faces one of the unaccessible parts of the palace. I was not expecting to see anything but as I was looking at the building I noticed a smokey figure in one of the windows. The figure, who looked male, seemed to be scanning, almost as if he were critiquing the front lawns and garden. He must have known that I was staring at him and he turned in my direction and then turned away again and walked away from the window. Later on I asked someone what was in that part of the building and they said that it was the original owners living quarters. I dont know what to make of what I saw, as I am accustomed to seeing spirits near to me, but I believe it to be either the original owner or possibly a worker of his. I've also experienced things in the war section and in the display of the elaborate dresses used in the Cotton Carnival."
I have to say that this is the first I have ever heard about a ghost at the Pink Palace but this story makes me want to head over to the museum to do a little ghost hunting of my own.
